Originally from South Africa, Dennis worked as a stone setter for one of the biggest jewellery manufacturers in Johannesburg. Then he started his own business in Durban and later on moved to Cape Town. Dennis specializes in all aspects in the jewellery trade: manufacturing, stone setting, repairs, restoring antique pieces, etc. After moving to Ottawa Canada, he continued his profession as a goldsmith. Dennis loves working with people and sharing his adventure stories with them. At Joy Creations Jewellers & Designers he is responsible for everything that happens in the workshop and more: from running our Saturday workshop demonstrations to consulting with customers on design ideas. Dennis is exceptionally good at thinking out of the box and coming up with unconventional solutions when facing “impossible” challenges on the workbench.
Our on-site designer and gemologist- Sam graduated from Ontario College of Art & Design with a Bachelor Degree of Material Art & Design- Metalsmithing/ Jewellery in 2008. Then he attended the Gemological Institute of America in New York City and became a graduate gemologist in 2009. To further his education in the jewellery trade, Sam learned to design jewellery and streamline the design process with CAD software and 3D printer. After working for one of the biggest jewellery manufacturers and designers in Ottawa as a designer and gemologist for six years, he started Joy Creations Jewellers & Designers with the Barnard family.
